Melbourne Airport Third Runway

In early September, Melbourne Airport welcomed the Federal Government’s approval of its planned third runway. The new north-south runway will deliver much-needed aviation infrastructure capacity for Victoria, help support thousands of new jobs for Victorians and give passengers and exporters more choice. 

The approval follows a 104-day community consultation period in 2022 and paves the way for detailed airspace design and construction. 

The third runway is scheduled to open in 2031. Development of the new runway will require changes to Melbourne’s airspace, including new and altered flight paths. This will be undertaken in collaboration with Airservices Australia and involve extensive public consultation to incorporate community feedback.
