Powering the Future: Inspiring Young Minds Through Clean Energy Education
As the transition to renewable energy gains momentum across Australia, ECF is proud to support EnergyAustralia in deepening community understanding of clean energy, starting with young people. ECF is leading the program design and delivery of a dynamic education initiative in schools, linked to the new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Mount Piper near Lithgow, aiming to inspire and inform the next generation through meaningful, hands-on learning.
This program is being delivered across nine schools located near Lithgow and is built around immersive workshops, curriculum-aligned content and real-world energy insights that connect students to the technologies shaping our future. More than just a lesson in science, it’s an opportunity for students to explore how renewable energy works, why it matters and how they can be part of a more sustainable future.
Central to the program is the development of engaging content that encourages curiosity, dialogue, and critical thinking. Classroom materials were designed by ECF to inform and stimulate discussion, including age-appropriate lesson plans and animated explanations that bring complex energy concepts to life. Students are supported with tailored worksheets that help them record their thoughts, reflect on key ideas and actively participate throughout the sessions.
To ensure the program is both effective and responsive, ECF incorporated instant feedback mechanisms using survey-based reporting, allowing both students and teachers to share their insights on the program, evaluating student engagement and understanding. Small group discussions were supported with conversation guides, while a set of recommended resources provided to teachers and other educators encourages further exploration beyond the classroom post-sessions.
From workshop design through to delivery and evaluation, ECF is assisting to create a learning experience that is engaging, practical, and fun. We are not only providing information about renewable energy, but also fostering a deeper connection between students and the systems that will power their future. By building critical thinking skills, encouraging meaningful participation, and offering opportunities for hands-on exploration, this program empowers children and young people to see themselves as active contributors to the clean energy transition.
By supporting education that is interactive, relevant, and future-focused, we’re helping shape a generation that is ready to lead Australia into a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
